Now that Donald Trump has been sworn in, it’s time to organize and focus on the resistance. And just in time for Saturday’s big Women’s March, Pat Benatar has created an incredibly inspiring new anthem to pump us up!
Millions of people across the country…and in fact the world…have been feeling defeated and hopeless since the night of the election. But our fight is far from over. This is the time that we must come together and take a stand for the future of this country…for our futures…and for the futures of the next generation.
Now that Trump has been sworn in, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Saturday’s Women’s March will be our first stand. And fortunately for us Pat Benatar just released an incredibly inspiring anthem to kick off the resistance.
Just like us, Pat Benatar woke up the day after the election wondering what she could do. Unfortunately she couldn’t attend the big Women’s March because of a scheduling conflict.
“This has been such an incredible year, and to not be a part of [the march] was just really upsetting to me.”
So instead of marching she got busy creating a great new song for us.
Her new song is titled “Shine.”
The song was released on January 20, the day before the big march. And all proceeds from the sales of the song will go to the B.A. Rudolph Foundation, which gives scholarships to young women looking to work for unpaid internships in politics, public service or the sciences.
The song costs 69 cents to download…which is symbolic because it represents the pay gap between men and women in this country.
“Shine” is now available on iTunes and Google and other major music platforms.
Beyond the song, Benatar is also starting a new movement called the Shine Together movement. The goal of the project is to promote unity, fund scholarships and support human rights.
“It’s a project that links women together: Women of all nationalities, women of color, every woman, together, so we can go forward and try to put the brakes on what’s about to happen. And not roll back the clock.”
“My whole mantra is that if you raise up one group, everyone benefits. So we’re trying to raise up all groups. This is an inclusive movement. It’s great for all of us to be out there, raising our voices and speaking up, but we need real change, and real people in place to make sure that change happens.”
Whether we like it or not Donald Trump is now President of the United States. What we do about it from here is left to us.
“There’s nothing we can do about what is right now,” Benatar said. “It is what it is. The most important thing we can do is to band together and commit, and make sure that our voices are heard.”
