Steve Bannon: Media Should ‘Keep Its Mouth Shut’- ‘You Have No Power’

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile.”

Trump’s chief strategist and leader of the alt-right movement, Steve Bannon, rarely speaks to the press, with the exception of his own Breitbart News. But on Wednesday night he gave a very hostile interview to the New York Times.

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” Bannon said.

Trump now views the media as the enemy. And Bannon’s comments reflect that he fully agrees.

“I want you to quote this. The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”

Bannon initiated the interview because he wanted to defend Press Secretary Sean Spicer. Over the weekend Spicer was widely criticized for repeating Trump’s lies about inauguration crowd sizes.

The Times asked Bannon if he thought Spicer had lost credibility with the press. A furious Bannon fired back,

“Are you kidding me? … We think that’s a badge of honor. ‘Questioning his integrity’ — are you kidding me? The media has zero integrity, zero intelligence, and no hard work.”

“You’re the opposition party. Not the Democratic Party. You’re the opposition party. The media’s the opposition party.”

Then Bannon went on to attack the media for not predicting Trump’s win.

“The elite media got it dead wrong, 100 percent dead wrong. [It was] a humiliating defeat that they will never wash away, that will always be there.”

“The mainstream media has not fired or terminated anyone associated with following our campaign. Look at the Twitter feeds of those people: they were outright activists of the Clinton campaign.”

Bannon added,

“That’s why you have no power. You were humiliated.”

After telling the reporter that he was a life-long reader of the Times, Bannon took one last shot at them directly.

“The paper of record for our beloved republic, The New York Times, should be absolutely ashamed and humiliated. They got it 100 percent wrong.”
