Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) tried to defend Trump’s travel ban by insisting that terror attacks committed by whites are totally different than Islamic terror.
On Tuesday Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) appeared on CNN and tried his best to defend Trump’s unconstitutional travel ban. He did the typical Republican fear mongering about Islamic terror attacks. And then he insisted that white domestic terrorists are totally different.
Duffy made the argument that the ban will stop Islamic terrorism, but there’s really nothing we can do about white terrorists, which he called “one-offs.”
CNN host Alisyn Camerota questioned Duffy about Trump’s latest comments that the media is purposefully not reporting terror attacks. A claim that is a complete lie, by the way. Camerota asked why the Trump administration left the recent Canadian attack on a local Mosque off the list of attacks they provided the press.
The Quebec City Mosque attack killed six people. But Duffy tried to make the case that the Canadian attack, along with other attacks by white people are not as big of a problem.
“You don’t have a group like ISIS or al Qaeda that is inspiring people around the world to take up arms and kill innocents. That was a one-off. That was a one-off, Alisyn.”
When Camerota mentioned the Charleston attack on a black church, Duffy said something great came out of that attack.
CAMEROTA: “How about Charleston, congressman? He was an extremist. He was a white extremist?”
DUFFY: “Yes, he was. OK?”
CAMEROTA: “How about that? That doesn’t matter?”
DUFFY: “No, it does matter. It does matter. Look at the good things that came from it. [Then-South Carolina Gov.] Nikki Haley took down the Confederate flag, that was great.”
“But you want to say I can give you a couple of examples. There’s no constant threat that goes through these attacks. And you have radical Islamic terrorists and ISIS that are driving the attacks, and if you want to compare those two, maybe you can throw another one ―”
Duffy also claimed that the left was manufacturing outrage. And then blamed the left for killing Gabby Giffords.
“Look at Gabby Giffords. The Marxist, who took her life, a leftist guy, and now you see violence and terror in the streets all across America, burning and beating people with Donald Trump hats. The violence you have to look in, you’re trying to use examples on the right.”
Gabby Giffords was shot in 2011 at a campaign event. But she is still very much alive.
This is where we live now. In Trump’s America truth and facts no longer matter. But bigotry and hate? Those are alive and well.
Camerota: Why isn't the president talking about white terrorism?
Duffy: There's a difference. https://t.co/YEgSitUsdS
