Trump Chooses Jerry Falwell, Jr. To Lead Higher Education Task Force

Trump and his team seem determined to transform the nation’s education system into an Evangelical Christian institution.

On Tuesday night Jerry Falwell, Jr.’s Evangelical Liberty University informed NBC News that Falwell has been asked to lead Trump’s new Higher Education Task Force.

Liberty University spokesman Len Stevens told NBC that Falwell will focus the task force on “over-regulation and micromanagement of higher education.” Falwell is well known for his objections to the federal government imposing too many regulations on governing accreditation and financing of American colleges and universities.

According to NBC,

“[Falwell] has said he was offered the position of education secretary in the Trump administration late last year but declined because he wanted to stay close to his family in Lynchburg, Virginia, where the university is based. He enthusiastically endorsed Trump’s eventual nominee, Betsy DeVos.”

Jerry Falwell, Jr. along with Focus on the Family’s James Dobson, Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins, the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s, and evangelist Pat Robertson’s Christian Coalition’s Ralph Reed were among the first to endorse Donald Trump.

And these evangelical leaders were unfazed by Trump’s despicable behavior throughout the campaign. Not even bragging about sexual assault, mocking a disabled reporter, or attacking the Pope was enough to make them question their support.

Trump and his team seem determined to transform the nation’s education system into an Evangelical Christian institution. Choosing Betsy DeVos and Jerry Falwell, Jr. to be in charge of the nation’s schools is extremely disturbing. Especially if you believe in freedom of religion and the separation of religion from public schools.
