Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is now demanding that Paul Ryan replace Devin Nunes from the chairman position on the House Intel Committee, which is investigating Trump’s ties to Russia.
Rep. Devin Nunes is the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, which is investigating ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. Nunes already had a serious conflict of interest running this investigation because he was a member of Trump’s transition team. But after his extremely shady behavior last week, Democrats say Nunes should be forced to step down.
Last week, after ditching his staff, Nunes held a late-night clandestine meeting with a White House official on the White House grounds. He claimed that at that meeting he learned some “disturbing” things. So, the next morning, he rushed to Trump to tell him what he saw.
Nunes has yet to reveal his findings to the Democratic ranking member or the rest of his committee.
So, on Monday, Democrats started calling for Nunes’ removal.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer took his demands to the Senate floor Monday.
Schumer said,
“Without further ado, Speaker Ryan should replace Chairman Nunes. If Speaker Ryan wants the House to have a credible investigation, he needs to replace Chairman Nunes.”
He continued,
“Chairman Nunes is falling down on the job and seems to be more interested in protecting the president than in seeking the truth. You cannot have the person in charge of an impartial investigation be partial to one side. It’s an inherent contradiction.”
Your move Paul Ryan.
