Jason Chaffetz Takes Immediate Leave From Congress

This whole Jason Chaffetz thing just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser….

On Wednesday, House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz announced that he will be taking an immediate leave from Congress for the next month because of a medical situation.

Earlier this month, Chaffetz announced that he will not run for reelection in 2018. And he indicated that he may not finish out his current term.

Chaffetz says now that he is leaving because he needs surgery on his foot.

He posted on his Instagram an x-ray of his foot along with a brief explanation.

“Almost 12 years ago, I shattered several bones in my foot which required 14 screws and a metal plate to repair. Yes, I wish I could say I was cliff diving in Mexico but the truth is I fell off a ladder while repairing something in my garage. The University of Utah doctors now recommend immediate surgery to remove all the hardware or I could be at risk for serious infection.”

He added,

“I’m sorry to miss the important work we are doing in Washington. This is not an opportune time to be away but medical emergencies are never convenient. I appreciate my constituent’s patience and understanding as I take time to recover.”

Something about Jason Chaffetz’s behavior just doesn’t feel right. It was very strange when he announced that he may quit his term early. That announcement seemingly came out of nowhere. And then just a couple of weeks later he takes leave for a month?

Maybe this foot surgery thing is legit. And maybe quitting Congress and taking a month’s leave of absence are totally unrelated. Maybe. But my Spidey senses are telling me maybe not.
