Finally! A Republican has come out and called for a Senate investigation into Trump’s business ties to Russia. And that will likely include examining his tax returns.
Democrats have been screaming for Trump’s tax returns since long before the election. They want his returns so that they can see what financial ties and business dealings he has with Russia. And now, finally, a Republican agrees.
On Tuesday CNN’s Manu Raju reported that Republican Senator Lindsey Graham wants a Senate investigation into those Russian business ties.
In the Senate hearing on Monday, Graham asked former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper if he was concerned about Trump having business and financial ties to Russia. Clapper said he couldn’t answer the question because it was part of an active FBI investigation.
On Tuesday, Graham told Raju that Clapper’s answer piqued his interest and made him want to dig in deeper.
Graham said that Trump’s tax returns would be helpful to this investigation. But he also said that they’re not ready yet to subpoena the returns.
Lindsey Graham is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary’s subcommittee on crime and terrorism. And he is the highest ranking Senate Republican so far to call for the investigation into Trump’s business dealings with Russia.
