Trump’s lawyer is now insisting that Trump is not under investigation. That is a lie. And Chris Wallace just shredded him for it.
We found out this week that Donald Trump is now under criminal investigation for obstruction of justice. Not only was it reported by the Washington Post, but it was also confirmed by Trump himself when he tweeted, “I am under investigation.”
But Sunday morning Trump’s lawyer Jay Sekulow made the rounds on all of the Sunday shows insisting that Trump was not under investigation.
Surprisingly the only real pushback on Sekulow’s absurd claim was by Chris Wallace at Fox News. Wallace knew he was lying. And he didn’t let the lawyer get away with it.
After a heated exchange, Sekulow finally admitted that he actually has no idea whether or not Trump is being investigated. But then he continued to demand that he be believed when he said that Trump wasn’t.
At one point, he both admitted that Trump was being investigated for obstruction of justice and then insisted that he never said that.
“He takes the action that [the Attorney General’s office] recommended and now he’s being investigated by the Department of Justice. He’s being investigated for taking the action that the attorney general and deputy attorney general recommended him to take by the agency who recommended the terminations!”
Wallace quickly pointed out that Sekulow just confirmed the investigation saying, “You’ve now said he is being investigated after saying [he isn’t].”
Sekulow shot back, “No, he’s not being investigated!”
WALLACE: “You just said he’s being investigated.”
SEKULOW: “The president is not under investigation!”
WALLACE: “Sir, you just said two times that he’s being investigated. And he’s not just being investigated for firing Comey, there’s also what he said to Comey when Comey was still the FBI director.”
SEKULOW: “I do not appreciate you putting words in my mouth. When I have been crystal clear that the president is not and has not been under investigation.”
WALLACE: “You do not know that he has not been under investigation, sir. Actually, what I’m trying to get is a straight answer out of you.”
