Donald Trump has infuriated the entire world by pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord. And now a real leader has a few things to say to him about it.
French President Emmanuel Macron just delivered a message to Donald Trump and the people of the United States. This was actually the first time ever that a French president has given an address in English from the Élysée Palace. And he made his disgust about Trump’s pulling out of the Paris climate deal well-known.
Between the infamous hand-shake last week at the G7 Summit and these new harsh words, it seems clear that the French president is no fan of Trump.
On Thursday night, after Trump made his announcement that the U.S. was pulling out of the climate deal, Macron skewered him in a televised address to the people of the United States which aired across the globe. Macron started his comments in French but quickly moved to English for a 3-minute message about Trump’s “error for the interests of his country, his people and a mistake for the future of our planet.”
“I wish to tell the United States: France believes in you. The world believes in you. I know that you a great nation. I know your history, our common history.”
Then he invited upset Americans to find a “second homeland” in France where they actually believe in science.
“To all scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, responsible citizens who were disappointed by the decision of the president of the United States, I want to say, that they will find in France a second homeland. I call them, come, and work here, with us, to work together on concrete solutions for our climate, our environment. I can assure you, France will not give up the fight.”
Donald Trump has humiliated us on the world stage and diminished our role as leaders of the free world. It’s a sad day for this country when we can depend on and believe the president of France more than we can our own POTUS.
And then there’s this.
