Every time you think that Republicans have reached rock bottom, think again. They can always go lower. They always do. Here’s proof.
After Republican Congressman Steve Scalise was shot in June at an early morning congressional baseball practice, Republicans and Democrats alike came together to denounce the horrific act. But you wouldn’t know that if you listened to the Republican lies.
On Monday, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) put out a disgusting new campaign ad for his Senate run that uses the Scalise shooting to attack the Democrats.
The ad begins with audio of the shooting and captions that read,
“June 14: A Bernie Sanders supporter fires on Republican congressmen. Mo Brooks gives his belt as a tourniquet to help the wounded. What’s the liberal media immediately ask?”
Then the ad shows Brooks responding to a reporter’s question. The reporter asks, “Does this change your views on the gun situation in America?”
As the music swells Brooks answers,
“The right to bear arms is to ensure that we always have a republic. So, no, I’m not changing my position on any of the rights that we enjoy as Americans.”
Using the Scalise shooting to score cheap political points is a new low for the Republicans. Or maybe I should say it’s yet another new low. Apparently, there is no bottom for Trump’s GOP.
Even Steve Scalise acknowledges that the new Brooks ad has gone too far. A spokesman for Scalise said about the ad on Monday, “I guess some people have their own ideas about what’s appropriate.”
