This is almost too disgusting to believe it’s true. But tragically, it is.
According to Everytown For Gun Safety, there have been 233 school shootings in the United States since 2013. And that doesn’t include plots that didn’t come to fruition.
School shootings are a major problem in this country. So you would think that retailers would be smart enough not to glorify guns in schools. You would think so. But you would be wrong.
On Wednesday morning, photos started showing up on social media of a display at Walmart that is beyond disturbing. The store put up a large gun display with a sign that read, “Own the school year like a hero.”

As you can imagine there was major backlash after these pictures showed up. Walmart quickly put out an apology and said the display was being taken down. “This sign had no business there and was taken down as soon as we were alerted,” the corporation said.
Yes, this is terrible, Jordan. This sign had no business there and was taken down as soon as we were alerted. We are very sorry. -Dean

But it is still unclear whether the display was actually taken down. Walmart spokesman Charles Crowson initially claimed that the store was in Evansville, Indiana. But Crowson said late Wednesday that they had the wrong store. And he then admitted that they still don’t know if the display was taken down because they still haven’t found the right location.
“We incorrectly identified the Evansville store,” Crowson said. “We’ve corrected that and are now trying to find the accurate store.”
