This is incredibly inspirational. Hey Dems….more of this please!
There’s a new Democrat running for a seat in Kentucky. And her first campaign ad is incredibly inspiring.
Lt. General Amy McGrath was the first female Marine to fly an F-18 in combat. And she’s now trying to unseat Republican Andy Barr in Kentucky’s 6th district in the House next year. This definitely won’t be an easy race in Mitch McConnell’s state. Barr won his reelection bid last year by 20 points. But McGrath is off to a good start with this introductory ad.
The television ad was made by the highly respected Democratic media consultant Mark Putnam. Putnam worked on the ad teams for both of Obama’s presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012.
This new McGrath ad highlights one of the new Democratic strategies of recruiting veterans. It also shows that the Dems are focused on running great candidates for the 2018 midterms in all 50 states….even the deep red states.
In the, ad titled “Told me,” McGrath says,
“When I was 13, my congressman told me I couldn’t fly in combat. He said Congress thought women ought to be protected and not allowed to serve in combat.”
“Then I got into the Naval Academy and, wouldn’t you know, that’s when they changed the law. I’m Amy McGrath and I love our country. I spent 20 years as a U.S. Marine, flew 89 combat missions bombing al Qaeda and the Taliban.”
McGrath points out that Barr is Mitch McConnell’s “hand-picked congressman.” And she says that Barr and McConnell both have vowed to “vote enthusiastically to take healthcare away from over a quarter-million Kentuckians.”
McGrath’s inspirational ad tells the story of a woman who followed her dreams, and against all odds she prevailed. It reminds me of McConnell’s comment about Elizabeth Warren, “Nevertheless, she persisted.”
Here’s hoping that she beats the odds again next year in her midterm House race.
