Not many things leave me speechless. This new ad left me absolutely speechless. And then I felt the need to strap on a helmet and bang my head on the desk. What are you doing Democrats?????
Dan Helmer is a Democrat running for a congressional seat in Virginia’s 10th district. And he just made a new 2018 campaign ad that is absolutely cringeworthy.
The ad is a parody of the movie “Top Gun” mixed with the worst karaoke singing I may have ever heard. Helmer sings “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” to a woman playing the part of incumbent Republican Rep. Barbara Comstock. But he changes the words of the song to talk about Comstock’s refusal to hold Town Hall meetings and her opposition to Obamacare.
The ad is clearly meant to be funny. And, in its own sad way, I guess maybe it is. Sort of like when you see a dog that is so ugly that it’s almost cute. This ad fits perfectly in Trump’s America. It’s stupid and foolish and doesn’t represent an ounce of dignity or respect for the office.
But is that what the Democrats are going for now? Are we lowering our own standards down to Trump’s level now? What are we doing here? Why are we dumbing it down?
We are supposed to be the adults in the room. We have to be. We’re the only adults left. This ad might be cute if you were running for president of a college fraternity. But I expect a lot more from a Democrat who wants to be a member of the United States Congress.
This guy might be a great candidate. I hope he is. But he’s off to a terrible start with this awful ad. Come on Dems!
