Saturday Night Live is back! Alec Baldwin opened the season premiere with another brilliant skit, absolutely shredding Donald Trump over his Puerto Rico response and his fight with the NFL.
SNL kicked off its 43rd season this weekend. And they opened with a bang.
The cold open featured Alec Baldwin in his Emmy-winning role as Donald Trump. The skit began with Trump talking to Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, played by Aidy Bryant.
“Welcome back from Bedminster, mister president,” she says. “Thank you Sarah, I had to come back — sometimes when you’re president you have to make sacrifices, so I skipped the back nine,” Trump replies.
Sanders then tells him that the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico is waiting on the phone.
“I was expecting this phone call. I’m sure she just wants to tell me what a great job I’m doing,” Baldwin’s Trump says.
When he gets on the phone the San Juan mayor, played by Melissa Villaseñor, tells him that the relief aid needs to get there faster.
“Well, you should have paid your bills. FEMA takes a few days unless you join FEMA Prime,” Trump tells her. “Ma’am, I don’t know if you know this but you’re in an island in the water, the ocean water, big ocean, with fishies and bubbles and turtles that bite.”
The opening skit wasn’t the only part of the season premiere that shredded Trump over his Puerto Rico response. Michael Che and Colin Jost on “Weekend Update” took some pretty good shots too.
“Well, after President Trump was criticized for a terrible response to Hurricane Maria. this morning he finally gave the people of Puerto Rico what they needed most: A bunch of tweets straight up calling them lazy,” Jost said.
“After the mayor of San Juan criticized the federal government relief efforts, President Trump attacked her on Twitter saying, ‘The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump,'” Che said. “Oh really, Donald? You bitch. Was she nasty to you? How nasty? Are you shaking? Do you want to go smoke a Virginia Slim until your hand stops moving?”
