The confused look on Roy Moore’s spokesman’s face after Jake Tapper schools him is priceless.
On Tuesday, Ted Crockett, a Roy Moore spokesman, appeared on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper. And he proved himself to be a complete idiot.
During the interview, Tapper asked the spokesman if his candidate still believed in some of the bat-shit-crazy statements that he’s made in the past. And Crockett basically said that Moore believes that the Christian bible should be the law of the land.
Jake said to Crockett,
“Moore has also said that he doesn’t think a Muslim member of Congress should be allowed to be in Congress. Why?”
“Because you have to swear on the bible. I had to do it. I am an elected official. Three terms I had to swear on a bible. You have to swear on a bible to be an elected official in the United States of America. He alleges the Muslim cannot do that ethically, swearing on the bible.”
With an amazed look on his face Tapper replied,
“You don’t actually have to swear on a Christian bible. You can swear on anything really. I don’t know if you knew that. You can swear on a Jewish bible….”
“Oh no,” Crockett cut in. “I swore on the bible. I’ve done it three times Jake.”
“I’m sure you have. I’m sure you’ve picked a bible. But the law is not that you have to swear on a Christian bible. That is not the law.”
At that point it appeared that the Moore spokesman’s mind was totally blown. He just sat there with a blank stare on his face looking completely confused. Apparently this was news to the Moore camp that the Christian bible doesn’t run the US government.
Crockett did manage to get in a “Merry Christmas Jake.” Jake Tapper is Jewish.
