Righties are all excited today because Alex Jones at Infowars says he has a copy of Devin Nunes’ classified memo that is promised to blow up the Mueller investigation. One problem. Alex Jones is full of shit.
On Tuesday, alt-right wing-nut Alex Jones said that he had obtained a copy of the top-secret memo written by Devin Nunes detailing corruption in the FBI and Justice Department. Considering how badly Republicans want to protect Trump and discredit the Mueller investigation, it’s not that much of a stretch to believe that one of them leaked the classified memo to someone like Jones.
This memo that they’re talking about is a four-page classified report written by House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes that alleges government abuses of surveillance authority.
The details of the memo are still classified. But several Republican members of Congress, including Reps. Matt Gaetz, Jim Jordan, and Mark Meadows – who have seen the memo – say that it is so explosive and damning that it could lead to criminal prosecution of government officials in the FBI and DOJ.
Committee Democrats are already saying that the memo is basically bullshit. The Democrats say that Nunes wrote the memo without consulting any of them.
The committee’s top Dem, Adam Schiff, dismissed the document as “rife with factual inaccuracies and referencing highly classified materials that most of Republican Intelligence Committee members were forced to acknowledge they had never read.” According to Schiff, the document “is meant only to give Republican House members a distorted view of the FBI.”
“Nunes’s actions don’t quite look like those of a House intelligence committee chairman earnestly horrified by his discovery of serious surveillance abuses. He didn’t share any of the information he allegedly unearthed with his Democratic colleagues before drafting the memo. There’s no evidence that he sought to call witnesses to investigate his concerns. He just wrote a document, declared it shocking and made it available to people likely to be shocked.”
But, whatever scam Nunes is trying to pull, he seemed to get an assist from Alex Jones on Tuesday.
“Congress is writing their report on this memo,” Jones claimed on his program.

The problem is: the document released by Jones was not the Nunes memo.
The fact is, the document Jones was salivating over on Tuesday was a document that has been declassified and available online for quite some time.
As journalist Jeryl Bier pointed out on Twitter, the declassified document that Jones posted can be found on the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s website.

After getting a ton of backlash for lying about the memo, Jones added an update to his original article late on Tuesday.
“Despite media claims to the contrary, our congressional sources confirmed that the below memo documenting NSA spying on US citizens serves as a primary source of information for the Nunes summary memo:”
Bottom line, Jones has nothing. Nunes has nothing. And Bob Mueller’s investigation is continuing unimpeded. So when your righty friends post another #ReleaseTheMemo link to Infowars, you can confidently tell them that they are full of shit.
