Wow! There was an actual sane speaker at CPAC this year. Too bad that the audience booed her. And even worse, she had to have security escort her to her car for her protection after she spoke out against Trump.
Most of this week’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) was bat-shit-crazy. But there was at least one sane speaker who was brave enough to tell the truth about Donald Trump.
Mona Charen is a longtime conservative writer and senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. And, on Saturday, she appeared on a stage panel at CPAC to discuss the topic “#UsToo: Left out by the Left.”
When Charen was asked what gets her “riled up” about the modern feminist movement, she answered by blasting conservatives for ignoring the sexual misconduct of Trump and Roy Moore.
“I’m actually gonna twist this around a bit and say that I’m disappointed in people on our side,” Charen said. “For being hypocrites about sexual harassers and abusers of women who are in our party. Who are sitting in the White House. Who brag about their extramarital affairs. Who brag about mistreating women. And because he happens to have an R after his name, we look the other way, we don’t complain.”
She continued,
“This is a party that was ready to endorse — the Republican Party endorsed Roy Moore, for the Senate in the state of Alabama even though he was a credibly accused child molester. You can not claim that you stand for women and put up with that.”
At that point, the crowd erupted into boos and shouts of “Not true!” and “It was a witch hunt!”
Charen also went after CPAC itself for giving far right French politician Marion Maréchal-Le Pen a speaking spot.
“I think the only reason she was here is because she’s named Le Pen. And the Le Pen name is a disgrace. Her grandfather is a racist and a Nazi. She claims that she stands for him. And the fact that CPAC invited her is a disgrace.”
And again the crowd erupted in angry boos.
Tim Alberta from Politico reported that after the panel was over Charen had to be escorted out by security for her protection.
