Republican Congresswoman: ‘Many’ Mass Shooters ‘End Up Being Democrats’

So now they’re blaming mass shootings on Democrats? What is wrong with these people??

One week after the deadliest high school shooting in America, a Republican Congresswoman is saying that it must be the fault of the Democrats because so many mass shooters “end up being Democrats.”

Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) gave an interview to radio host Fred Dicker on Wednesday. And, defying reality, she tried to blame the entire epidemic of mass gun violence in this country on the Democratic party.

“Obviously there’s a lot of politics in it,” Tenney said. “And it’s interesting that so many of these people that commit the mass murders end up being Democrats, but the media doesn’t talk about that either.”

First of all, Tenney is full of shit. Mass shooters in this country are not generally Dems. Have there been some shooters who identify with the left? Yes. James Hodgkinson, who shot up the Republican Congressional baseball team last year, was a volunteer for Bernie Sanders’ campaign. But that has been the exception, not the rule.

The most recent shooter, Nikolas Cruz, who slaughtered 17 children and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Valentine’s Day was a white supremacist and a Trump supporter. Cruz posted pictures of himself on social media wearing his red “Make America Great Again” hat. And he made racist, violent, anti-Semitic, and homophobic statements in a social media chat room.

It’s unfair to say that most mass shooters are from one political party or the other. But it’s especially ridiculous to say that they’re Dems or Liberals. If anything, you can lay some blame at the feet of the Republican party because of the way they idolize a gun culture and promote hate.

Congresswoman Tenney says that she’s worried that the response to the Florida shooting will result in legal gun owners being “targeted.”

“I think the government really made a mistake in this area,” Tenney said. “I think that that’s what scares me most. A lot of these legal gun owners are going to be targeted now, and in their demographic they have the least amount of crimes of virtually any demographic.”

Tenney later tried to defend her statements by saying that she’s standing up “for law-abiding citizens who are smeared by anti-gun liberal elitists.”

She added in a statement,

“I am fed up with the media and liberals attempting to politicize tragedies and demonize law-abiding gun owners and conservative Americans every time there is a horrible tragedy. While we know the perpetrators of these atrocities have a wide variety of political views, my comments are in response to a question about the failure to prosecute illegal gun crime.”

Anthony Brindisi is Tenney’s Democratic challenger, and he is calling on her to apologize for her outrageous comments.

“This toxic rhetoric is shameful and a new low even for Ms. Tenney,” Brindisi said on Twitter. “Inserting politics into a national tragedy is beyond the pale & disgusting. She should apologize now to spare our region any more national embarrassment.”
