Shepard Smith Slams Fox’s Primetime Lineup, ‘Opinion Hosts Have No Rules’

Fox News’ Shepard Smith slams fellow Fox hosts Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham. “Some of our opinion programming is there strictly to be entertaining.”

It’s still a mystery why Shepard Smith works at Fox News. He actually reports the truth. So he doesn’t fit in at the network at all. And Smith knows that most of the people he works with are full of shit.

On Thursday, Smith gave an interview to Time Magazine‘s Daniel D’Addario. And he told the reporter that Fox’s prime time hosts don’t “really have rules.” Smith says that the network’s evening lineup exists “strictly to be entertaining.”

In the interview, Smith explains that his real news show is very different from the shows hosted by Carlson, Hannity, and Ingraham.

“We serve different masters,” Smith said. “We work for different reporting chains, we have different rules. They don’t really have rules on the opinion side. They can say whatever they want. If it’s their opinion.”

He added,

“I don’t really watch a lot of opinion programming. I’m busy.”

You would think that Fox would just fire Smith for speaking the truth the way he does. But you would be wrong. In fact, Fox just renewed a multi-year contract with him. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. And Smith has been with the network since 1996 when it launched.

Later in the Time interview, Smith addressed criticism that he’s gotten for putting his own opinion into reporting straight news, an accusation that he denies.

“I guess, I know, that there are people who come at everything in a political way. I don’t. I’ve never really liked politics,” Smith explained. “I’ve always said that I thought politics in America was weird and creepy, and lacked a connection to reality.”

On Friday, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham responded to Smith’s interview. They definitely weren’t happy about it. Guess the truth hurts.
