Kanye West has been saying a lot of stupid things in his support for Donald Trump this week. So a reporter at TMZ just schooled him straight to his face about it.
On Tuesday, Kanye West made an appearance at TMZ to talk about his controversial love of Donald Trump. And it didn’t go well. At all.
In addition to his inexplicable support for Trump, he went into a strange tirade in the TMZ newsroom about slavery on Tuesday. Kanye said,
“When you hear about slavery for 400 years, for 400 years? That sounds like a choice. Like, you were there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all?”
A few minutes later, he shouted to the entire room of reporters, “Do you feel like I’m being free? And I’m thinking free?”
After a few reporters appeared to support Kanye’s plight, Van Lathan stood up and absolutely hammered him.
“I actually don’t think you’re thinking anything,” the TMZ reporter said. “I think what you’re doing right now is actually the absence of thought. And the reason why I feel like that is because, Kanye, you’re entitled to your opinion. You’re entitled to believe whatever you want. But there is fact, and real-world, real-life consequence behind everything that you just said. And while you are making music and being an artist and living the life that you’ve earned by being a genius, the rest of us in society have to deal with these threats to our lives. We have to deal with the marginalization that has come from the 400 years of slavery that you said, for our people, was a choice. Frankly, I’m disappointed, I’m appalled and, brother, I am unbelievably hurt by the fact that you have morphed into something, to me, that’s not real.”
I have no idea why Kanye has suddenly come out as Trump’s biggest supporter. But much of what he’s been saying is just ignorant. It’s nice to see someone take him to task over it.
