“President Trump upended world order in a way no American president has in modern history.”
On Wednesday, Fox News’ Shepard Smith torched Donald Trump over his behavior at the NATO meetings this week. Smith said that Trump’s comments could “turn back the global clock centuries.”
“President Trump upended world order in a way no American president has in modern history,” Smith said.
Either Trump is just outright lying about how NATO works or he truly doesn’t understand it. So Shepard Smith tried to, once again, explain it to him.
Smith pointed out the agreement that all NATO members made back in 2014 that they would increase their defense spending to 2% of their GDP by the year 2024.
“Obviously that deadline is six years away, and only a handful of those countries have reached that goal,” Smith said. And then he explained that all NATO countries have increased their spending over the past four years. “The trend is positive. Just as President Trump has been demanding.”
Showing his ignorance, Trump said on Wednesday,
“Many countries are not paying what they should. And, frankly, many countries owe us a tremendous amount of money for many years back, where they’re delinquent, as far as I’m concerned, because the United States has had to pay for them.”
That’s not how NATO works.
