House Republicans held a public hearing on Thursday to grill FBI agent Peter Strzok. And it was quite a circus. But, no matter how obnoxious the Republicans got, Mr. Strzok held his own.
FBI agent Peter Strzok faced off with House Republicans on Thursday. And there were plenty of fireworks. The hearing has been mainly a partisan battle between the Democrats and Republicans in the room. But Mr. Strzok definitely isn’t letting the Republicans push him around.
In one of the more fiery exchanges, a defiant Strzok said, “At no time in any of these texts did those personal beliefs ever enter into the realm of any action I took. The suggestion that I’m in some dark chamber somewhere in the FBI, would somehow cast aside all of these procedures, all of these safeguards, and somehow be able to do this is astounding to me — it simply couldn’t happen.”
Strzok also pushed back on the Republicans’ assertion that he was fired by Mueller because of his bias against Trump.
“I am stating to you it is not my understanding that he kicked me off because of any bias, that it was done based on the appearance,” Strzok said. “If you want to represent what you said accurately, I am happy to answer that question, but I don’t appreciate what was originally said being changed.”
“I don’t give a damn what you appreciate, Agent Strzok,” Trey Gowdy responded. “I don’t appreciate having an FBI agent with an unprecedented level of animus working on two major investigations during 2016.”
Strzok also explained that his text message saying that they would stop Trump was written in response to Trump’s attack on a Gold Star family during the 2016 campaign.
“My presumption, based on that horrible, disgusting behavior that the American population would not elect somebody demonstrating that behavior to be President of the United States,” Strzok said. “It was in no way, unequivocally, any suggestion that me, the FBI, would take any action whatsoever to improperly impact the electoral process, for any candidate.”
