Conservative columnist Jennifer Rubin from the Washington Post believes that the new secret tape of Devin Nunes telling donors that Republicans are there to protect Trump proves that the GOP is “irredeemable” and must be defeated in November.
On Wednesday night, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow played a secret recording, that she obtained from liberal activists, of Devin Nunes (R-CA) talking to donors. In the recording, Nunes is heard telling the Republican donors that they must elect more Republicans to protect Donald Trump from the Mueller investigation.
After hearing the recording, conservative columnist Jennifer Rubin from the Washington Post appeared on MSNBC and slammed Nunes and the Republican Party. Rubin said that the tape proves that the GOP is “irredeemable.” And she said that they must be defeated in November.
“If there is ever a better reason to get rid of Paul Ryan’s party, it’s this,” Rubin said. “They exercise no responsibility, it’s always about the party, it’s always about protecting the president and never about doing their constitutional obligation.”
“So my takeaway from this [is] … these people really are irredeemable, and if you want a constitutional check on the president of the United States, you’re going to have to change parties.”
The fundraiser that Nunes spoke at was for Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) who seemed to go along with everything he said about protecting Trump.
“And now we have Kathy McMorris Rodgers, who is the No. 4 person — doing very badly, by the way, in her primary — sitting there like a lump on the log as this person is waxing about how his primary job is to protect the president and not to do his job,” Rubin said.
“These people look like stooges,” she added.
