So, Senator Graham, do you stand by this? Or are you just a big fat hypocrite?
On Tuesday night, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell resurfaced an old clip of Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) talking about impeachment. In the clip from 1999, Graham is in favor of impeaching former President Bill Clinton. So now O’Donnell is asking the question, does Graham “still believe in the standard he set for removing a president?”
“You don’t even have to be convicted of a crime to lose your job in this constitutional republic if this body determines your conduct as a public official is clearly out of bounds in your role,” Graham said during impeachment proceedings for Clinton.
“Impeachment is not about punishment,” he continued. “Impeachment is about cleansing the office. Impeachment is about restoring honor and integrity to the office.”
So Lawrence O’Donnell is now asking every reporter to question Graham on whether he believes these things about Donald Trump.
“Every reporter must now ask @LindseyGrahamSC if he still believes in the standard he set for removing a president in the impeachment of Bill Clinton,” O’Donnell tweeted.
In a statement on Tuesday Graham said that “the American legal system is working its will” but that “there have yet to be charges or convictions for colluding with the Russian government by any member of the Trump campaign.”
