President Obama stepped back into the spotlight last week with a pair of campaign speeches that left Donald Trump and the White House rattled. And now our favorite former FLOTUS is jumping in too!
Trump better buckle up. Not only is Barack Obama coming for him, but his wife is also jumping into the ring to kick Trump’s ass.
With her first appearance on the campaign trail since the 2016 election, Michelle Obama recorded a PSA for Sunday night’s Black Girls Rock awards show. And she basically asked black women to save us all from Trump at the polls in November.
“We’ve all seen the difference we can make when we choose to cast our ballots. And we’ve seen the consequences when we don’t bother to show up to the polls,” the former first lady said in the public service announcement that premiered at Sunday’s awards show.
“The PSA is part of Obama’s voting initiative When We All Vote, which she launched in July to encourage more young people to go to the polls. Co-chairs for the national nonprofit include other big names like Janelle Monáe, Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tim McGraw.”
In the video, Michelle urges everyone – especially women of color – to perform the “most basic American responsibility” by showing up to the polls and voting in the midterms.
“It’s why I’m coming to you for help,” she says. “Because women of color know how to get things done for our families, for our communities, and for our country. When we use our voices, people listen. When we lead, people follow. And when we do it together, there’s just no telling what we can accomplish.”
Welcome back Michelle! We’ve missed you girl.
