“The migrants are coming! The migrants are coming!”
Friday night on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher the comedian used his opening monologue to slam Donald Trump, accusing him of fear-mongering about the migrant caravan making its way north from Honduras.
“Trump is like a racist Paul Revere. ‘The migrants are coming! The migrants are coming!’” Maher said. “He keeps calling it an invasion. Yes, an invasion of strollers.”
“Yes, the great invaders of history, Attila the Hun, Ivan the Terrible, Dora the Explorer,” he mocked. “Fox News treats it like it’s the zombie apocalypse. But zombies eat brains, why would they be heading towards America?”
In his final segment, “New Rules,” Bill Maher made a final plea to voters. He pointed out that we, as a country, have never been here before. There’s never been a president like Donald Trump, or one who constantly did or said the horrific things Trump does.
“Trust me my historian friends,” Maher said. “I’ve read your books on American history. And this guy ain’t in any of them.”
“Yes, previous presidents declared war. But not on reality,” he said.
Maher complained that historians keep trying to calm us down and tell us that everything will be fine because America has been through dark times before.
“Stop trying to calm us down right now,” Maher exclaimed. “You know when it’s okay to yell ‘fire’ in a theater? When it’s on fire!”
