Trump’s claim that President Obama wiretapped Trump Tower is crazy. But the way Conservatives are trying to defend Trump’s lie is even crazier.
It’s been almost two weeks since Donald Trump inexplicably accused President Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower during the campaign. Trump has yet to show a shred of evidence to back up his unhinged claims, however.
But if you’re Fox News, who cares about silly evidence? While most of the media is covering this wiretap story for what it is…another big fat Trump lie…Fox is bending over backwards to defend Trump’s paranoid conspiracy theories.
On Tuesday morning Judge Napolitano appeared on Fox & Friends to reassure Conservative viewers that Trump told the truth about the wiretapping. Napolitano explained that the reason the U.S. intelligence community isn’t jumping to Trump’s defense is because Obama illegally bypassed them altogether.
Napolitano said Obama actually used a British spy agency to surveil Trump. And Obama did this to cover up his crime…according to Fox News “sources.”
“Three intelligence sources have informed Fox News that President Obama went outside of the chain of command. He didn’t use the NSA. He didn’t use the CIA. He didn’t use the FBI. And he didn’t use the Department of Justice. He used GCHQ. What the heck is GCHQ? That’s the initials for the British spying agency. They have 24/7 access to the NSA database. So by simply having two people go to them saying President Obama needs transcripts of conversations involving candidate Trump, conversations involving President-elect Trump, he’s able to get it. And there’s no American fingerprints on this.”
Show host Brian Kilmeade got all excited and responded,
“So you’re saying that the British used their version of the CIA to wiretap Donald Trump’s phone or Tower.”
“So Trump might be right except for who did it.”
And down the rabbit hole of hell we go….again.
