It’s remarkable. Instead of just backing down from a lie, Spicer is twisting himself into a pretzel trying to prove that his boss is under a major investigation by the FBI.
Trump would rather be investigated for treason than admit he was wrong.
Trump lied when he accused President Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower during the campaign. He lied. Plain and simple. And now his lie has been debunked by both Democrats and Republicans.
So far this week, former Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, Paul Ryan, the Republican chair of the House Intel Committee, and the Republican chair of the Senate Intel Committee have all come out and said there was no wiretapping of Trump Tower. And it is being reported that FBI Director, James Comey, will say the same on Monday.
But is Trump backing down? Of course not.
On Thursday, Press Secretary Sean Spicer said that Donald Trump is standing by his baseless claims. Spicer spent a good portion of Thursday’s press conference insisting Trump was telling the truth.
Spicer, who got more and more frantic and combative with each question about the wiretapping, read off a long list of articles that were the sources of Trump’s lie. Never mind the fact that most of the articles do not back up Trump’s claims. But Spicer also quoted Sean Hannity and Judge Napolitano.
The Republicans who have determined that Trump’s claims are bogus used the FBI as their source. Trump used Fox News.
So Sean Spicer literally spent the afternoon spinning new lies to cover up another lie in an attempt to prove that his boss is under a major investigation by the FBI.
Seriously, you have to see this. It’s unbelievable.
