Saturday Night Live brought out the big guns this weekend. Robert De Niro played Bob Mueller, and he grilled Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, played by Ben Stiller, “Meet the Parents” style. And it was absolutely hilarious.
Saturday Night Live’s Cold Open was epic this week. It featured the unexpected duo of Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller.
The skit starts out with Jeff Sessions, played by Kate McKinnon, and Mike Pence, played by Beck Bennett, talking about the FBI raids on Michael Cohen’s home, office, and hotel room.
“I feel like I say this every week, but this week was bad,” McKinnon’s Sessions said.
“In a couple of months the president will be back to normal,” Bennett’s Pence replied.
“How’s that?” Sessions asked.
“Because it’ll be me,” Pence answered.
Then Ben Stiller walks in and says,
“That’s right, it’s Michael Cohen, attorney at law. And also sometimes not at law. Can you believe what they’re doing to poor Mr. Trump? It’s a disgrace! This whole raid was a complete violation of attorney-criminal privilege.”
“Look we got a real problem here, Jeff,” Stiller continues. “Do you know how much evidence I have in my office? I’m Donald Trump’s lawyer. I’ve got a whole hard drive that’s just labeled, ‘Yikes!’”
Later in the skit, Stiller’s Cohen walks into a room where he meets with De Niro’s Robert Mueller.
While Mueller grills Cohen, it becomes clear that the skit is also spoofing the movie Meet the Parents.
“Looking for something, Mr. Cohen?” Mueller asks before making him take a lie detector test.
“If you’re innocent, you have nothing to worry about,” De Niro’s Mueller says. “How’d you like that pee-pee tape? I’m kidding! Relax. We’ll get to that later.”
