“The details of the case are quite frankly heartbreaking, disturbing, disgusting, and infuriating all at the same time.”
The stories about Donald Trump’s horrific immigration policy just keep getting worse and worse. Trump and his Republican toadies have consistently dehumanized immigrants, especially those coming in from the southern border. So it should come as no surprise that we are now getting reports of severe abuse on these people who are being treated as sub-human.
On Monday, NBC reported an absolutely horrific case of abuse.
“A Texas sheriff’s deputy was being held Monday on a charge of “super aggravated sexual assault” of a 4-year-old girl after authorities say her mother, an undocumented immigrant, was being blackmailed to stay silent about the abuse — or face deportation.”
47-year-old Jose Nunez is a 10-year veteran detention officer with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested on Sunday after the mother of the abused child went to a local fire station for help.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said, “The details of the case are quite frankly heartbreaking, disturbing, disgusting and infuriating all at the same time.”
Salazar said that the mother took the child to the fire station after the little girl screamed out in pain. The sheriff also said that Nunez had “familiar ties” with the woman and her child. But their exact relationship is unclear.
The abuse of this child went on for months, and possibly years. And the sheriff says that there may be other victims.
“This suspect utilized to his advantage to place the mother in fear that she would be deported if she did report it,” the sheriff said, adding that the “little girl now is safe.”
“I don’t know that he was purposely targeting the undocumented community,” Salazar said. “Certainly what was appealing was the vulnerability of that community because they are less apt to report things.”
